According to HMRC’s twitter site (don’t rush to follow it – you have not missed anything exciting) 40,000 people ignored the gorgeous sunshine we’ve been having and were indoors busily filing their tax returns for the year to 5 April 2011 in the first week.
Given that the filing deadline is 31 January 2012 it shows an impressive level of duty.
However, although filing early doesn’t make tax payable sooner, it is important if you are due a tax refund as the sooner you file the sooner HMRC will have to repay you.
Another plus point is that HMRC only have a year from when you file to query things on the Tax Return. If you want certainty about something which falls in one of the many grey areas in our tax system by filing early you can get closure sooner.
So, if you think you may be due money back – contact us – we love extracting tax refunds back from HMRC.
